Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o’clock this afternoon at Temple Emanu-El for Benno Lewinson, prominent member of the bar and well-known leader who died Saturday night at his home here at the age of 80.
For twelve years Mr. Lewinson was a trustee of Temple Beth-El. He was also active in the Federation of Jewish Charities, in the Educational Alliance, in the Judeans and many other Jewish organizations. He was one of the founders of the New York County Lawyers Association and his membership in the New York bar dated back fifty-seven years. He was a classmate of the late Louis Marshall.

In addition to his activities as a lawyer, Mr. Lewinson was one of the contributing editors of the Jewish Encyclopedia. At one time he was literary editor of the Reformer, a weekly which is no longer in existence. He wrote many articles on legal subjects and was vice-president of the New York Law Institute for a number of years.
In accordance with his will, Mr. Lewinson’s body will be cremated. Dr. Samuel Goldenson of Temple Emanu-El will officiate at the services. Among the honorary pallbearers announced last night were Judge Isador Wasservogel, Bernard S. Deutsch, Samuel Sea-bury, Charles E. Hughes, Jr., and Judge Bernard Shientag.
Mr. Lewinson was born in Buk, Germany, in 1854 and received his early education in that country. He came to the United States in 1866, where he graduated from Columbia University and was admitted to the bar in 1877.
A few days prior to his eightieth birthday last Sept. 28, a physical ailment developed. After a five-month illness, Mr. Lewinson succumbed to pneumonia. He is survived by his wife and four daughters, Dr. Ruth Lewinson, Miss Edna Lewinson, Miss Sarah Lewinson and Mrs. Miriam Hofstadter.
