More than 2,000 residents of Milwaukee and its suburbs crowded into two anti-Fascist rallies to hear three European labor leaders denounce Hitler.
The speakers were Dr. Kurt Rosenfeld, onetime minister of justice in Prussia; Aneurin Bevan, Labor Party member in the British House of Commons; and Willi Muenzenberg, former Communist member of the Reichstag. The rallies were in Jefferson Hall in Milwaukee and in Pilgrim’s Hall in West Allis, a suburb.
Dr. Rosenfeld pointed out that “the fight against Hitler is nearing success. The united front of all anti-Fascists—Jews, Catholics, Socialists and Communists—is becoming a reality.”
Bevan declared that “it is difficult to over-estimate the value to the human race of the defeat of Hitler.” He defined Fascism as “the last trump up the sleeve of the capitalist class” and warned that “the working classes must unite” to fight the menace in this country.
The rallies were held under the auspices of the Milwaukee unit of the International Committee to Aid Victims of German Fascism.
