An out-of-court settlement of an effort by the Rothschild family to obtain suppression of Roger Peyrefitte’s best-selling “The Jews,” was announced here by attorneys for the family, the writer and the publisher.
The Rothschilds charged that the book contained anecdotes about the family to which they objected. The case was to have been heard January 7. Under the settlement, the writer agreed to eliminate from future editions two passages in addition to one which a Paris judge ordered eliminated last July.
After the July ruling, the Rothschilds, still dissatisfied, filed a new suit, demanding damages of 100,000 francs and bigger deletions in material in the book referring to them. The book claims such personalities as the British Queen, President Johnson and Gen. Charles de Gaulle have Jewish blood.
