Rumania Acts to Check Emigration Racketeers

Police courts are closely watching the activities of persons who obtain money from desperate refugees on the pretext of providing them with emigration possibilities. Hundreds have been stranded at the Black Sea port of Constanza as a result of the activities of these agents.

Bucharest Jews are collecting a fund of 3,000,000 lei to save from starvation a group of 150 Jews released from the Dachau concentration camp in Germany who were enticed to Constanza a month ago by a Vienna travel agency which promised them final settlement abroad. Harrowing scenes occurred at the port when refugees repeatedly made unsuccessful attempts to smuggle themselves aboard departing ships.
