Serious internal differences have arisen between the Rumanian government and the anti-Semitic Iron Guard partly over the question of sharing the property confiscated from the Jews of Rumania, it was reported here today.
The report states that a delegation of the Iron Guard appeared before General Antonescu, the Rumanian Premier, and demanded that fifty percent of the nationalized Jewish property be turned over to the Iron Guard in view of the fact that they had actually initiated the movement to have Jewish wealth confiscated. The demand was flatly rejected by Premier Antonescu who stated that the confiscated Jewish property is to be administered by the state only, the report added.
An official order issued in Bucharest this week, aimed at securing more Jewish capital, permits Jews to purchase shares in enterprises which they formerly owned, providing that the transaction is approved by the Minister for National Economy. Every enterprise which formerly belonged to Jews, or in which Jews acquire shares, must register with the authorities the names of all shareholders and their religion,” in order to eliminate all traces of anonymity and facilitate government control,” the order provides.
