A grave situation in the Jewish school front is revealed in today’s issue of the Shtern which complains that the Jewish schools have not been provided with teachers, buildings or books. The Shtern terms the situation “catastrophic” for Jewish education throughout Ukrainia, saying that the danger of Jewish children being absolutely unprovided with schooling is serious. The gravest point, says the Shtern is the fact that Jewish children have no clothes or shoes and are thus in any case unable to attend school.

Ten Jewish schools in the colonies of the Oktiaber Jewish region have been closed. The local Jewish communists today appealed to the central government of the Ukraine asking the government to take urgent measures to reopen the schools.
