Russian President Vladimir Putin named one of Russia’s two chief rabbis as one of his personal choices to sit on a new advisory body. Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar of the Federation of Jewish Communities and main Chabad emissary in the region was one of several religious leaders appointed to the Public Chamber alongside clerics representing Orthodox Christianity, Islam, Buddhism and Pentecostalism.
