The S. S. Bloch Home for Nurses was formally opened in Wheeling. The five-floor building was built with a donation of $250,000 by the children of S. S. Bloch, prominent Jewish communal leader. The children who donated the money were Jesse A. Bloch, Harold S. Bloch, Madelyne Bloch Ziegler and Dorothy Bloch Hirsch.

Mr. S. S. Bloch has been a member of the board of directors of the Ohio Valley General Hospital since its organization and his children provided the funds for the building of the Nurses Home as a token of affection for their father.
