Some 40 Samaritans residing in Israel passed through the Mandelbaum Gate and into Jordan territory in the Old City of Jerusalem today to travel to Mount Gerisim outside Nablus where they will celebrate their colorful Passover sacrifice.

At first the Arab Legion refused their request for safe passage through the lines, but later reversed its decision. There are approximately 180 persons in the Samaritan community, almost equally divided between Israel and Arab-held Palestine.
