A group of prominent citizens here decided to establish a committee of Friends of the Weizmann Institute of Science following an address here last night by Abba Eban, Israel Minister of Education, at which a number of Nobel Prize winners were presented with the State of Israel Commendation Award for 1962.

Mr. Eban, in addressing the 800 guests attending the dinner, said that Israel would always be small in population and territory. “Its main vocation is to develop an intense vitality of spirit,” he emphasized. “History has proved the capacity of small States to exercise an influence on human destiny out of all proportion to their physical dimensions. It is only by emphasizing her intellectual and spiritual functions that Israel can amount to something in the scales of world history.”
