The amount of $200,000 was bequeathed to the Haddassah, the Woman’s Zionist Organization of America, in the will of Mrs. Amelia Ostroski, prominent Jewish woman philanthropist, who died here recently at the age of 77.
The will which was filed for probate in the Superior Court disposes of an estate valued around $400,000.
The residue of the estate is to go to this organization as the “Ostroski fund” after $110,000 has been distributed among thirty of Mrs. Ostroski’s friends and relatives, and $49,000 more has been given to ten other charities.
The amount of this bequest is estimated at $200,000 by persons in touch with Mrs. Ostroski’s affairs, and is to be used at the Hadassah’s discretion “for the support and relief of sick, poor, needy and aged Jewish persons in Palestine.”
The Jewish Associated Charities is to receive $20,000 by the terms of the will, and the Blindcraft Factory of San Francisco, the Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children and the Home for Jewish Aged and Disabled will each receive $5,000.
An additional $1,000 was left to this home for the erection of a memorial tablet in the chapel, next to that of her husband.
Other charities named in the will are the Little Sisters’ Infant Shelter, Florence Crittenden Home, Salvation Army of San Francisco and the San Jose Jewish Cemetery Association. Each will receive $2,000.
Mrs. Ostroski was the widow of Samuel Ostroski.
