Frank Dimant the executive vice president of the Canadian B’nai B’rith, said the unanimous vote at the B’nai B’rith International convention earlier this month changing the status of the Canadian B’nai B’rith from a district to an affiliate of the international order meant the Canadian B’nai B’rith was “entering into a new era.” Dimant noted that until the convention vote, the Canadian order has been referred to and treated constitutionally and operationally in a North American context, lumped together with the United States districts.
Dimont added that “this new status will enable us to act more effectively in the political activities of Canadian life” and “unifies eastern and western Canadian B’nai B’rith lodges and thus enables us to more effectively coordinate our work in Canada and the Jewish communities across the country.”
He said, under the new status, the Canadian B’nai B’rith would “expand our League for Human Rights across Canada and intensify our activity in the B’nai B’rith International Council by building a stronger liaison with the B’nai B’rith United Nations Desk.”
