Israel’s largest seaport was paralyzed today as dock workers went on strike in support of wage demands. Only ships loading perishable citrus cargoes and port activities connected with security were exempted from the walkout. Port authorities and the workers have begun negotiations to end the strike. The strike has the unofficial support of the Haifa Labor Council. Officially, the Council cannot support a strike while current labor contracts are still valid.
