A second attempt within two days to cut the main British Army telegraph line from Jerusalem to Haifa was discovered today by linesmen repairing the underground cable.

Before attempting to repair the severed line, the repairmen scouted the area and discovered a wooden box containing a landmine. The booby trap was set to explode if the severed cable was disturbed.

Police forces continued their harassing searches and identity checks in Tel Aviv yesterday. The Mea Sheorim quarter of the city was cordoned off and searched for several hours, preventing Jewish housewives from shopping for food for the holiday. In Bath Yam, near Tel Aviv, 500 troops were used in an operation which began at midnight. In both cases no arms or ammunition were found and no arrests were made.
