Security was beefed up around Israel’s chief rabbis after intelligence was received that they could be targeted by Palestinian terrorists. The chief Ashkenazi rabbi, Yona Metzger, and his Sephardi counterpart, Shlomo Amar, were assigned bodyguards and had their travels to Jewish settlements in the West Bank and Gaza Strip curtailed Thursday, security sources said.
