An element of anti-Semitism has entered the segregation question in a number of smaller communities. The Southern Israelite declared in an editorial in its current issue.
Commenting on the proposed Amendment No. 4 which will be on the ballot Nov. 2 in a move to bypass in this State the Supreme Court decision outlawing racial segregation in the schools, the paper said:
“It is interesting to note in passing that several of our contacts in smaller communities record a new type of anti-Semitism emanating from the problem of segregation, regardless of the expression of local Jewish citizens or the lack of it. This approach has definitely added a new dimension of fear to the security which many of these small communities had felt they had helped to create.”
