Jewish registrants ordered to report for pre-induction physical examination or for induction in the Army may request deferment until after the Jewish High Holy days, the Jewish Welfare Board reported today. The board has been notified of a directive from Selective Service headquarters to local draft boards urging them to “honor requests of registrants of the Jewish faith to have either their order to report for induction or pre-induction postponed to a date other than that of the Jewish New Year and Day of Atonement.”

According to the J.W.B.’s Division of Religious Activities, the directive applies to the full 10-day period.
