The Senate completed today Congressional action on a resolution commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Revolt. The resolution, previously approved by the House, was approved unanimously by the Senate on a voice vote. The measure expressed the sense of Congress in recognition of the “world significance of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising as a reaffirmation of the ineradicable determination to fight for freedom from oppression.”
In a House speech today, Rep. Edward J. Derwinski, Illinois Republican, cited a statement adopted by the board of the Polish National Alliance, which declared that the “anti-Semitic outbursts in the Communist press and governing circles in Poland is an attempted cover-up for ideological, social and economic bankruptcy.” Rep. Derwinski said he wanted the statement noted to make it clear that “anti-Semitism is a tool of the Communist Government and does not reflect the feeling of the people of Poland.”
