Sen. William E. Proxmire, Wisconsin Democrat, has criticized the Attorney General for failure to take effective action to prevent further bomb attacks on synagogues in the South.

Sen. Proxmire said: “Surely it is too late in the day to adopt so crabbed a view of Federalism as the Attorney General seems to entertain. These are real bombings. They are inflicting real damage, not only on property, but on the fabric of our collective life. The Constitution is broad enough to meet this challenge…”

He introduced into the Congressional Record an editorial from the Milwaukee Journal urging Federal intervention.
