Shimon Peres said the sole aim of his contacts with the Palestinians was to achieve a cease-fire. The Israeli foreign minister told the Cabinet on Sunday there was no diplomatic element to his discussions with Palestinian negotiator Ahmed Karia, Israel Radio reported. The foreign minister’s remarks came as right-wing ministers protested reports that Peres had drawn up a peace agreement with the Palestinians that included recognition of a Palestinian state.
