Emmanuel Shinwell of Whitehapel, the son of an East End tailor, and a Jew, has been appoint to the Cabinet of Premier MacDonald. Shinwell, who will be Secretary of the Mines Department, is a member of the extreme Clyde section of

the Labour Party and suffered imprisonment for his strike activities, but was rewarded by the strikers, whose cause he championed and who presented him with a gold watch.

Shinwell, it will be recalled, was the center of a stirring scene in the House of Commons some months ago, when in the midst of a speech which he was delivering the cry of “Jew!” went up fromaa conservative member of the House.
