Shlomo Amar was elected chief rabbi of Tel Aviv. Amar, the head of the Petach Tikva rabbinical court, is the first solo chief rabbi of the city, following a decision by the municipal council to abolish the system of having separate Ashkenazi and Sephardi chief rabbis, according to the Jerusalem Post.
