Mayor Robert Wagner yesterday proclaimed a “Sholem Aleichem Week” for New York City in honor of the famous Jewish writer whose 100th birthday anniversary is this year being celebrated throughout the world. In Israel and in the Soviet Union special postage stamps have been issued marking this anniversary
The first anniversary celebration in the United States was held tonight at Hunter College here. The celebration was arranged by the Farband-Labor Zionist Order.Recent Jewish actors participated in presentations of Sholem Aleichem characters.
