Secretary of State George Shultz has appointed B’nai B’rith International executive William Korey to a special committee to assess changes in policy by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The United States withdrew from UNESCO last January after failing to persuade UNESCO UNESCO’s director general, Amado Mahtar M’Bow, to make major revisions in its policies. Korey, who is director of policy research for the International Council of B’nai B’rith, is the only representative of any Jewish organization on the 10-member committee.
