Sir Daniel Levy, Speaker of the New South Wales Parliament was awarded £100 damages in the suit he brought against a labor daily which charged him with acting in a usurious manner during his term of office as Attorney General.
The paper called Sir Daniel a Shylock. Counsel for Sir Daniel stated that his client is a Jew and proud of it but objects to being called by the name of Shylock, one of the worst characters in the history of letters.
Sir Daniel’s suit was for £5000.
