Lord Shaughnessy, vice-president of the firm Sir Mortimer Davis, Inc. issued a statement today on the death of Sir Mortimer Davis, Canadian Jewish financier. “The sad news of the death of Sir Mortimer Davis will be received with most profound grief by his host of friends here. Possessed of unbounded generosity, he was one of Canada’s greatest philanthropists and institutions of every denomination will continue to hold his name in reverence.”
The building of the Y.M.H.A. in Montreal donated by Sir Mortimer Davis will be opened during this year. As a tribute to the late donor, all activities of the “Y” have been suspended for one week. Memorial services will be held on the day of the funeral. Alderman Louis Rubenstein, president of the “Y”, cabled condolences to the widow.
Arrangements for the funeral have not been completed, it being uncertain whether burial will take place in France or in Montreal. Sir Mortimer’s only son is on the ocean on his way back to France after a visit here.
