A mikveh, or ritual Jewish bath, dating back more than 200 years may have been discovered during excavations last week in the Dutch city of Utrecht.
Dutch authorities were cautious when making the announcement, saying the site will need closer examination.
Jews were not allowed to reside in Utrecht until the end of the 18th century. When that rule was changed at the end of the 18th century, synagogue services were first held in a private house. It was close to the site where the mikveh was discovered.
