The situation of the national minorities in European countries has improved greatly since the World War in the view of Aristede Briand, French Minister of Foreign Affaris, addressing the Assembly of the League on the question of the national minorities.

Before the World War, 100,000,000 people belonging to national minorities were suppressed and subjugated; today, 20,000,000 people of the national minorities are under the protection of the League of Nations, he stated. However, the protection for the national minorities should not become a factor for the disturbance of the peace and a machine for provoking war. The considerations of peace should be placed above all other interests, he declared.
