Slovak Jewish leaders criticized the award of a top honor to a man historians claim was an active supporter of Slovakia’s wartime Nazi-puppet state. Five leading Slovak historians said Jozef August Mikus, 92, who was presented with the Pribina’s Cross by President Rudolf Schuster two weeks ago, showed a xenophobic attitude toward Jews while working as a diplomat during the war.
