Israeli air force planes attacked Egyptian military positions along the Suez Canal today. All planes returned safely. An Israeli soldier was injured in a fire exchange along the Canal. Two Israeli soldiers were injured in the Gaza Strip this morning when a grenade was thrown by unknown persons. An investigation is under way. (In Washington, administration officials admitted privately today that there is overwhelming evidence of Soviet pilots engaged in dogfights in the Egyptian skies, but said that official recognition of the fact is being withheld because of the delicate negotiations on the U.S. initiative. Sources indicate that embarrassing the Russians by calling to world attention Israeli air superiority over the trained Russian forces would be counter productive).
