Solender Says Philanthropic Institutions Must Be Open to Change, Innovations

Sanford Solender, executive vice-president of the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York, advised Westchester Jewish Community Services leaders that “If private philanthropic institutions are to fulfill their opportunities, we must be determined, innovative, open to change.” Addressing the group’s annual meeting, he declared: “We must abandon sacred cows, have a readiness to demonstrate vigorously and graphically that we do represent the best in volitional effort.” Solender added: “The changes in this generation have been cataclysmic, demanding profound professionalism and redefinition of private voluntary philanthropy.” He recommended that philanthropies ask themselves if they “have the same relevancy as in the past.”
