Some 55 percent of Israeli Jews polled believe that the Palestinians deserve an independent state, according to the annual “peace index” survey conducted by Tel Aviv University’s Tami Steinmetz Center. But the poll found a strong majority oppose giving any portion of Jerusalem over to Palestinian rule.
