Sonia Peres, wife of Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres, was reported Tuesday to be in stable condition at Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Center in Ein Kerem, Jerusalem, after suffering a heart attack Monday.
She was reported to be resting, fully conscious, in the hospital’s intensive- care unit.
The foreign minister, who had been in Spain on an official visit, cut short his trip to return to Jerusalem. He was lunching in Madrid with his Spanish counterpart, Foreign Minister Javier Solana, when he received the news. He left immediately and was at his wife’s bedside by midnight.
Physicians said Sonia Peres was out of danger but would probably remain in the hospital for a few days, for further tests and observation.
