South American Jews contributed nearly $1,000,000 for Joint Distribution Committee relief activities during 1946, it was revealed here by Jacob B. Lightman, J.D.C. representative. The Argentine and Brazilian Jewish communities raised some $300,000 each and the Uruguayan Jews gave $40,000. Many contributors were former refugees who have established themselves firmly within the Latin American economy.

Goldberg, Assistant District Chaplain in the U.S. Navy, left today by plane from New York for South America to report to Jewish communities in Argentina, Brazil, and Chile on the J.D.C. overseas relief operations. He will give the communities he visits a detailed picture of the measures which the J.D.C. takes to said Jewish workers become self-sufficient and to emigrate from Europe.)
