See Original Daily Bulletin From This Date

Jewish sources in the Soviet Union reported today that scores of Jews in Leningrad, Minsk, Moscow, Kiev, Riga and Novosibirsk have signed a petition to UN Secretary General Kurt Waldheim asking him to intervene on behalf of those Jews who wish to emigrate to Israel. Dr. Waldheim is due to visit the Soviet Union soon.

The Board of Deputies of British Jews has written to the Secretary General drawing his attention to the plight of Vladimir Markman and Mark Nashpitz, Jewish activists awaiting trial in the Soviet Union. The Board asked Waldheim “to bring the plight of Markman and Nashpitz to the attention of the Soviet authorities.”
