Great indignation is expressed in official circles here against the American Jews joining the Pope’s “crusade against Soviet Russia.” Soviet officialdom feels that the American Jews, more than the Jews of other countries, know what the Soviet government has done for Russian Jewry, and the opinion prevails here that the Jews of America, more than other religious groups, are responsible for the stirring-up of public opinion against the Soviets.

A leading official said today: “It is remarkable that although the anti-Soviet campaign is being conducted under the slogan of a crusade, the rabbinate has nevertheless joined it.” Similar comments appear today in the official “Isvestzia,” which says that the leaders of the Catholic and other Christian churches understand that the rabbinates are connected with the real power, namely the international banking dynasties.

Concluding, the “Isvestzia” says it is “glad to establish that the so-called church persecutions in Soviet Russia have brought one remarkable result, namely that after 2,000 years they have an opportunity of including the Jews in the camp of Christianity.”
