The Russian submarines which Egypt recently acquired have been trailing Israeli shipping in the Gulf of Akaba, the Earl of Dundee charged today during a debate in the House of Lords. He said that nothing was being done about the situation.

The Earl offered a motion in the House deploring the decision of the United Nations requiring Israel to withdraw its forces from the Gaza and Akaba areas without any guarantee against future aggression and interference with her shipping. He said that Israel’s history was an example of the dangers to peace which may result from trying to base a foreign policy on an international authority. He charged that the principal objective of Soviet policy in the Middle East was to draw its oil into the Soviet orbit by helping the Arabs destroy Israel.
