The Soviet Union is continuing to arrest and harass Jewish activists on the eve of President Nixon’s visit to Moscow, the National Conference on Soviet Jewry asserted today. The Conference reported that Alexander Lunts, Boris Tsitlionok, Mikhail Goldblat were all arrested in Moscow yesterday with Goldblat receiving a 15-day detention sentence. Lunts was released later.
The whereabouts of Yuli Kosharovsky, another Moscow activist is unknown, according to the Conference. The Conference reported that militia came to the home of VIadimir Slepak but he refused to open his door. In other developments, a group of activists who staged a demonstration in Red Square were picked up by the militia. In Kishinev last Saturday 25 Jews staging a vigil were detained and later released. In Kiev, Vladimir Kisyluk, a night watchman at a marina was beaten up at work. The Conference also reported that Anna and Yuri Berkovsky will go on trial in Novosibirsk June 25 on charges of possession of weapons and currency speculation. But Anatoly Novikov and Ida Nashpits, mother of Mark Nashpits have been granted exit visas according to the Conference.
