Fifty Mosul notables have forwarded a petition to King Feisul of Mesopotamia asking that Mosul remain within the boundaries of Mesopotamia, which is under the British Mandate, Mosul, rich in oil, it will be remembered was not
allocated under the Treaty of Lausanne. Britain has maintained that Mosul should come under its mandate over Mesopotamia and the Turkish Government at Constantinople insists that Mosul remain under its protectorate. The British Government a few days ago announced the appointment of Sir Percy Cox, late High Commissioner of Mesopotamia, to represent it in the Mosul negotiations which will take place in Constantinople.
