The State Department today issued a “clarification” of its previous statement that the United States had “no objections” to the recommendations on Arab refugees of Dr. Joseph Johnson, special envoy of the United Nations Palestine Conciliation Commission, and announced instead that “neither the U. S. nor the PCC has taken a position on the proposals. “

State Department spokesman Lincoln White said: “I wish to correct the statement I made regarding the Johnson proposals on the Palestine refugees. ” The previous statement, now rescinded, was that the United States had “no objections” to Dr. Johnson’s proposals.

In his clarification, Mr. White said: “The U.S. joined other members of the PCC in authorizing him to undertake these talks. Neither the U.S. nor the Palestine Conciliation Commission has taken a position on the proposals. “
