The State Department today stood by its brief statement of yesterday regarding the Israeli-Syrian border clash in the face of today’s reported air clash high over the embattled frontier. A spokesman said the Department remains concerned over the outbreak of fighting and continues to hope that both sides will observe the U.N. -negotiated weekend cease-fire agreement.

(Dr. Emanuel Neumann, honorary president of the Zionist Organization of America and member of the Jewish Agency executive, today criticized both the United Nations and the United States Government for their failure to take effective steps to restore actual peace between Israel and the Arab states.)
