Unless the sum of $3,923,000 is raised for the Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies, “it is the end of the Federation and the collapse of the Jewish Community of this city.”
This declaration was made by Paul Felix Warburg, co-chairman of the drive and emphasized by his father, Felix M. Warburg, at a meeting of 300 friends of the organization on Tuesday evening at the home of Adolph Lewisohn.
Felix M. Warburg who presided at the meeting, stated: “We’ve cut to the bone and everything we’ve got to cut now means hardship.”
The campaign has so far netted $761,000. The drive ends on January 1, 1933.
Other speakers at the meeting included Mrs. Felix M. Warburg; former Justice Joseph M. Proskauer, president of the Federation; Samuel D. Leidesdorf, chairman of the businessmen’s council, and Waldemar Kops, chairman of the executive committee of the campaign.
