The National Conference on Soviet Jewry has learned that former Soviet Jewish Prisoner of Conscience Dr. Mikhail Stern and his wife have received permits to join their two sons in Israel. Released earlier this month for “humanitarian reasons” according to the official Soviet News Agency report, Stern, a noted endocrinologist was sentenced to eight years imprisonment in 1975 on trumped up charges, because of his sons’ desire to emigrate. He served two years and eight months of the sentence. It is expected the couple will be leaving for Israel shortly.
