Professor Albert Einstein yesterday received a protest, signed by Joseph Cohen, executive secretary of the National Student League, and by Theodore Draper, editor of the Student Review, against the scientists’s endorsement of the International Student Service as the exclusive agency for raising funds for exiled German students.
The chief charge made by Cohen and Draper against the International Student Service is that the organization sends students from Fascist Germany to Fascist Italy. The protest quotes from the official report of the I.S.S., which states: “We have succeeded in finding a collaboration in Italy with excellent relations to the University in Rome.”
“We ask you to reconsider and retract your endorsement of the International Student Service,” the letter reads in part. “It must renounce its claims to such a high trust by its alliance with Fascism in Italy. We must not let the left hand go ignorant of what the right hand is going. We cannot oppose Fascism in Germany if we accept Fascism in Italy as our ally.”
