Unidentified persons painted swastikas and Nazi storm-trooper signs on the memorial tablet for victims of Nazi concentration camps at Wels, Upper Austria. Members of the Organization of Concentration Camp Inmates protested to the vice-mayor of Wels, a member of the League of Independent Voters. The official replied, when asked whom he believed had committed the desecration, “The Jews I guess.”
