The Swedish parliament today unanimously adopted a report submitted by its Law Committee which recommends making racial propaganda a punishable offense.
“Statements which are likely to provoke hatred against groups of citizens in our country because of their religion or race are inexcusable and intolerable,” the report said. “Making them a punishable offense would serve the interests of public order and of decency.”
In interpreting his report, the rapporteur urged that legislation specifically prohibiting anti-Jewish propaganda in Sweden should be promulgated. The adoption by the parliament of a resolution approving the report implicitly condemns anti-Semitism, he said.
