“Non-Aryan” refugees from Germany henceforth must have Swiss visas on their passports, under a Federal Council ruling made public here today.
The Council had originally wished to renounce entirely the Swiss-German agreement permitting entry of German citizens without visas, but decided that such action might interfere with the tourist traffic. It was thereupon agreed to demand visas only of “non-Aryan” persons within the definition of the Nuremberg laws.
Swiss newspapers point out that the ruling is not anti-Jewish and that it was made necessary by the fact that German Jews are not allowed to return to Germany and the consequent danger that they might remain in Switzerland, which regards itself simply as a country of transit for refugees.
