Seven Swiss Nazis, members of the Swiss Nazi Front, were under sentence today to serve jail terms and pay heavy fines to the Basle Jewish community for having defaced several synagogues with swastikas. They were also accused of having defaced city streets and bridges with the Nazi emblem.
The act of the Swiss Nazis in painting swastikas on synagogues was “rude and impudent and an insult to the Jewish religion and the feeling of Jewish citizens,” the judges declared, “and therefore necessitated an unconditional verdict. “
Swiss Nazis have encountered one defeat after another in recent months. Nazis brought before courts on anti-Semitic charges have received stiff sentences, the judges making it clear that anti-Semitic acts would be severely punished. Swiss papers have outspokenly condemned the Nazis for attempting to introduce racial hatred.
The case of four Swiss Nazis accused of publishing and circulating the “Protocols of the Elders of Zion” is pending before a Berne court, with all indications pointing to a complete collapse of the Nazi defense.
