The Synagogue Council of America has launched three major studies to explore the future role of the Synagogue in American Jewish life. Council president, Rabbi Irwin M. Blank announced yesterday.
Rabbi Blank, of Temple Ohabei Shalom in Brook-line, Mass., was elected president of the Synagogue Council of America, the central coordinating agency for the major national synagogal and rabbinic organizations of Orthodox, Conservative and Reform Jewry.
The three studies, which are being organized by the Council’s Washington, D.C.-based Institute for Jewish Policy Planning and Research, will deal with Jewish community transition, Jewish marriage patterns, and Jews on campus.
The U.S Senate Friday confirmed the nomination of former Sen. Kenneth Keating as the new American Ambassador to Israel. The nomination was routinely approved by a voice vote without dissent. Mr. Keating replaces Walworth Barbour. He will assume his post next month.
