Syria today assured the Israeli-Syrian Mixed Armistice Commission that it is prepared to return an Israeli fishing boat, the “Nachman,” which a Syrian naval vessel seized on the high seas last week.
The Syrians stopped the vessel while it was homeward bound from Turkey, ordered the captain to board the Syrian naval ship, and forced the “Nachman” crew to run their boat into a Syrian port. The “Nachman” crew radioed to Israel for help while still seven miles from the Syrian port.
